feel free Facts
+What are the potential side effects of using feel free CLASSIC?
The vast majority of customers report positive experiences with feel free CLASSIC when used as recommended. Rare cases of minor adverse events like nausea, heartburn, and headache have been reported, with an incidence rate of 0.0001% (1 non-severe incident per 745,381 servings) as of May 2024. No verified severe incidents have occurred. Our tonic label cautions that the leaf kratom ingredient can become habit-forming if consumed irresponsibly. If you are concerned about taking the product or experience any unfavorable reactions, you should avoid consuming it.
Bottonics has conducted its own clinical trials on feel free CLASSIC, with Phase 1 completed in December 2023, showing no serious adverse events or withdrawal symptoms based on the COWS and SOWS scales. Phase 2 of these trials will be completed by December 2024. Additionally, the FDA recently finished their firs (similar to what is used in feel free CLASSIC) and did not observe any serious adverse events at doses up to 12g (6.9x the serving size of feel free CLASSIC).
How has Bottonics improved the labeling of feel free CLASSIC to promote transparency?
The feel free CLASSIC label has always conformed with laws governing herbal supplements. Over the years, Bottonics has made several industry-leading changes to the label to further consumer transparency and help consumers make more informed decisions about product purchase and use.
The new feel free CLASSIC label includes legally required information such as serving sizes, servings per container, active ingredients, and age restrictions. It also goes above and beyond by including expiration dates, detailed information about active ingredients (total alkaloids, mitragynine, and 7-hydroxymitragynine), and a warning stating that, like caffeine and alcohol, leaf kratom has the potential to become habit-forming if consumed irresponsibly. The label also includes non-required disclaimers about who should avoid using any potentially habit-forming substance.
Bottonics advocates for regulation of the kratom industry and believes that consumers deserve more comprehensive labeling to make informed decisions and use the product in the safest manner possible.
How does Bottonics address concerns about past marketing practices?
In the early days of our company, we followed the legal requirements and industry standards for labeling and marketing our products. However, we have since realized that these standards were insufficient and may have misled consumers. We deeply regret any confusion or harm that our past marketing practices may have caused.
Our current focus is on providing comprehensive and transparent information about our products, including detailed ingredient lists, serving sizes, intake limits, directions for use, and clear safety warnings. We have also invested heavily in quality control measures, rigorous safety testing, and clinical research to ensure that our products meet the highest standards of safety and efficacy.
We acknowledge that we could have done better in the past, and we are determined to learn from it and do better moving forward. Our commitment to consumer education and transparency is unwavering, and we will continue to prioritize the safety and well-being of our customers above all else.
What is Bottonics approach to marketing feel free CLASSIC to college students and sports fans?
Our college athletics sponsorship deals were always intended to reach sports fans, not students. We never had specific sampling rights in student sections or activated on-campus at non-designated sporting events as outlined in our contracts.
Our products, including feel free CLASSIC, feature kava as the primary active ingredient, and we marketed them as such. However, we've since made several transparency improvements to our labeling and marketing to highlight leaf kratom more clearly.
As of Summer 2023, our university sponsorships are specifically centered around our kratom-free tonic product.
How does Bottonics ensure authenticity in podcast advertisements featuring feel free CLASSIC?
Our approach with the podcast clips featured in our advertisements has always been to showcase authentic, unscripted content from the podcasters themselves. We believe in the power of genuine storytelling and want their real experiences and perspectives to shine through.
We have never employed any strategy or policy to intentionally omit mention of kratom or any other specific topics or products. The podcasters are free to share their stories in their own words, and we do not dictate or control the details of what they choose to include.
If a particular clip does not mention kratom or another specific ingredient, it is simply a reflection of what that individual podcaster organically chose to express in the moment, not the result of any strategic omission on our part. Our goal is simply to provide a platform for these authentic voices to be heard.
How has Bottonics marketing strategy evolved to prioritize consumer education and transparency?
Our marketing strategy has changed dramatically in the past year, but not as a reaction to the lawsuit filing. As our business has grown, specifically in retail, we've shifted marketing focus accordingly.
We understand that our product is powerful, and we have a responsibility in our marketing. Many of the transparency-related marketing decisions are a direct result of our commitment to consumer education.
We have also voluntarily raised the minimum purchase age to 21 to further promote responsible use. The FDA's pilot study and the journal article both highlight the need for further research on kratom's safety profile, which aligns with our investments in clinical studies of our products.
Is feel free CLASSIC considered a habit-forming drink, and how does Bottonics address this concern?
We acknowledge that regular, prolonged use of leaf kratom, especially at high servings, may lead to dependence. The feel free CLASSIC label now includes a warning about the potential for leaf kratom to become habit-forming if used irresponsibly. However, current scientific evidence does not clearly demonstrate the impaired functioning or compulsive use despite negative consequences that characterizes addiction. There is an important distinction between native leaf kratom, like that used in feel free CLASSIC, and concentrated extracts that pose greater risks of dependence and adverse effects.
Many substances that are widely consumed have the potential to be habit-forming or addictive. The severity of that addiction is well documented by using the DSM-5 symptom endorsement model. Upon review of various reputable sources for DSM-5 endorsement across a variety of substances, it is evident that when viewed against a landscape of substances, the majority (71%) of leaf kratom consumers who meet the DSM-5 criteria are assessed as having a mild to moderate substance use disorder, following a very similar pattern to caffeine. Contrarily, ultra-processed food, which is widely sold and consumed, shows that 55% of people who meet the DSM-5 criteria for ultra-processed food experience a severe substance use disorder.
When reviewing the U.S. Poison Control Center Data for a wide variety of substances, normalized for 100,000 users, it is evident that poisoning calls for kratom and kava register at rates similar to energy drinks, as opposed to more deleterious substances like opioids, or commonplace substances like vitamins.

With the above said, we are committed to transparent labeling and have voluntarily included warnings that go above and beyond legal requirements to ensure that consumers can make informed decisions as to what they choose to consume. We will continue to update our labels as needed based on the latest scientific findings, including results from the FDA's ongoing research on kratom's abuse potential.
+Where can consumers find information about the ingredients in feel free CLASSIC, including leaf kratom?
Leaf kratom is clearly listed as a key botanical ingredient in feel free CLASSIC on the current product label and various pages on our website, including collection pages, product pages, FAQs, and ingredients pages.
That said, we are always looking for ways to be more transparent and would welcome specific suggested edits to become clearer.
+What is Bottonics position on isolated 7-Hydroxymitragynine (7OH) products?
Bottonics strongly opposes the sale of isolated 7-Hydroxymitragynine (7OH) products, as they are not naturally occurring in significant amounts in kratom leaves. 7OH is only present in trace amounts as a degradation product of the drying process. Authentic leaf kratom products, like feel free CLASSIC, have nearly undetectable levels of 7OH, as confirmed by third-party laboratory analysis.
The high affinity of 7OH for opioid receptors, as shown in in-vitro studies, raises concerns about its safety when sold in concentrated, synthetic forms. These 7OH isolates are being marketed as kratom products, which is misleading and dangerous. They are synthetic derivatives that lack a history of safe use and do not meet the regulatory standards for kratom as a dietary ingredient. Bottonics does not support the commercialization of these products without proper safety and regulatory oversight, as it puts consumer safety at risk.
+How does Bottonics view the Kratom Consumer Protection Act (KCPA) and its provisions regarding 7-Hydroxymitragynine (7OH)?
Bottonics takes an active role in ensuring that consumers have access to responsibly manufactured and safe leaf kratom products through:
- Support of the Kratom Consumer Protection Act (KCPA). The KCPA legislates for age restrictions, appropriate labeling and packaging standards, and unadulterated kratom products. It is imperative that consumers are equipped with the information they require to make informed choices about consumption.
- Support of Global Kratom Coalition, which is actively involved in funding and supporting kratom science and education.
Bottonics supports an upper limit on 7OH content for consumer safety.
How does Bottonics respond to concerns about the cost and fairness of the proposed kratom bill in California?
The kratom bill put forward by Assembly member Matt Haney prioritizes consumer safety and public health. The costs associated with implementing this bill, as determined by the first Appropriations Committee analysis, are not exorbitant. The registration fees designed to support these programs will not create a significant barrier to entry. As the program is funded by vendor registration fees, it will not burden taxpayers.
We must learn from the hemp industry's experience with synthetic products like Delta 8 and Delta 9, which have become a significant and costly problem for states to address. By implementing a well-thought-out, self-funded solution for the kratom industry now, we can proactively address similar issues. Failing to act promptly will ultimately lead to higher costs for taxpayers and vendors alike.
